Access Statement for Bovisand Lodge Holiday Park

Introduction

Bovisand Lodge Holiday Park is a small family run holiday park located in a steep sided wooded valley opening on to a safe sandy beach. We have a range of 4 star self-catering accommodation; 12 caravan holiday homes, 3 heritage apartments and 2 luxury lodges.

Our aim is to provide high quality accommodation and facilities to all our visitors whilst retaining the natural peaceful environment surrounding the Park.

The purpose of this statement is to accurately describe the standard of access to the accommodation and the facilities available across the Park. We are readily available to answer any queries or concerns that you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact us on: [email protected]

Pre Arrival

We offer telephone, email and postal correspondence.  All correspondence including, brochures and this access statement, can be made available in large print on request.

A manual wheelchair can be hired from the Red Cross. Please make us aware that you plan to do this before you book – our accommodations are not wheelchair accessible, we will need to confirm the suitability.

Mobility scooters can be parked outside of our caravans only (this is due to access requirements of our other accommodations) and can be charged outside on our centrally located car park.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

On arrival, cars can park at the front of the Lodge (big white house).

The entrance to reception is via 8 steps – no handrail.

If required, guests can come to a side entrance with a slope to the back door. Alternatively, on agreement guests can phone ahead to notify us of their arrival time, and then toot the car horn once outside, we will then come to greet you.

Caravans and Lodges – Cars can be driven to and parked outside your accommodation for unloading and loading purposes only, this includes those with mobility difficulties.

Cars are to be kept on a centrally located car park approx. 75 metres from the accommodation, there is a short gentle slope to enter & exit the car park and then it is predominately level.

Apartments – Cars can be parked outside the white Lodge or on the carpark. Parking is not available beside the Apartments as they are accessed via a footpath.

Main Entrance & Reception
Reception is accessed via 8 steps. The main doorway is 60cm wide with an adjacent door opening to a maximum 120cm wide if needed.

The interior door is 70 cm wide with the adjacent door opening to a maximum of 140cm if needed.

There is a table with 6 chairs within the reception area.

Assistance is always available on request.

Public Areas – General grounds

The Park is set within 40 acres of grounds. We are nestled at the base of a wooded valley and are surrounded by both gentle and steep slopes.

The main roads/paths throughout the Park are tar and chipped.

There are a number of speed ramps along the driveway to the Park, at the entrance to the car park and on the path that leads to the caravans & lodges.

Our Caravans & Lodges are situated along a flat road at the bottom of a short steep slope. There are a set of 12 steps running adjacent to the steep slope (note: no hand rails)

Our Apartments are accessed via a flat footpath that leads to a series of steps with handrails.

On the right hand side of the Park as you look out to sea, there is a tar and chipped path leading all the way to the beach. There are locked gates along the route; there are wide access points beside the gates.

On the left hand side of the Park as you look out to sea, there is a partially tar and chipped path that leads to a field that then backs onto the public beach.

The main public beach is accessed via an uneven slope lined with uneven small granite blocks. N.B. no handrail.

The Park is illuminated at night by energy efficient lighting and down lighters to minimise light pollution

Public Areas – Facilities

Swimming pool & Sauna

The swimming pool & sauna is situated halfway up a slope and can be accessed in a number of ways;

  • along a flat footpath and then up 12 steps. There are wheel chair resting steps in the centre and the steps have handrails on both sides.
  • up a wide grassy steep slope and then via an entrance in the hedge.

The main doors to the pool foyer are twin UPVC doors, upon entering there is a lip to step over. An access ramp can be provided on request.

Once inside the pool foyer, the pool can be entered & exited via a standard size door or there is an alternative route via two doors which can both be opened to create a wider doorway. There is a lip to step out of the doors.

The pool has a level surround and is accessed at the shallow end via 4 steps which are built into the side of the pool. There is a handrail provided. There is also a ladder with handrail which gives access to the deep end.

The pool is 12m x 6m and from 0.85m to 2.4m deep.

The changing rooms and a disabled toilet are located in the pool foyer. The floors are flat with anti-slip flooring and anti-slip matting.

The sauna is located within the pool area and has a small lip to step over to enter it.

Launderette

The launderette is located next to the Pool has a single width door with an automatic closure system behind it. There is a lip to step over to enter the launderette. Once in the Laundrette there are two front loading washing machines and front loading tumble dryers. The ironing board is height adjustable.

Play Area

The children’s play area is located at the top of a steep wide grassy slope. The play area surface is made up of a combination of bark chippings and grass. Seating (picnic benches) are provided. The play area is surrounded by steep grass banks and verges.

Woodland Walk

This is currently closed for maintenance.

Electric Car Chargers

Our 2 point electric car charger is located on the right hand side of our car park before the large sheds/outbuildings.

Accommodation

Apartments

Cars can be parked outside the Lodge to the right of the steps, or on the centrally located carpark. Parking is not available beside the Apartments as they are accessed via a footpath.

All apartments are fitted with smoke & carbon monoxide detectors and a fire extinguisher.

All apartments are non-smoking.

The Rodney Apartment

The Rodney Apartment is the ground floor apartment within the East wing of the Lodge (big white building).

The Apartment is accessed via a footpath which runs beside the Lodge, there are three steps along the path. These can be avoided if you walk along the slightly sloped grassy verge.

There is single gate into the private courtyard/patio, with motion sensitive light beside the front door.

There is one step to the main entrance and small 1″ wooden threshold.

Once inside there is level access except for a small step up to the basins and shower in the bathroom and a lip to step into the shower tray.

The lounge/dining area & bedroom are carpeted. The kitchen and bathroom are tiled.

The bathroom contains a toilet, 2 basins and a large shower, with wide access.

The bedroom has king size bed and sliding mirrored wardrobes.

A hardwood table & chairs/loungers are available in the courtyard.

The Whidbey Apartment

The Whidbey Apartment is the second story apartment within the East wing of the Lodge.

The Apartment is accessed via a footpath which runs beside the Lodge, there are three steps along the path. These can be avoided if you walk along the slightly sloped grassy verge. There are a further 12 steps with hand rails either side that lead up towards the swimming pool, this is followed by a short walk and then 4 more hand railed steps before you enter the terraced patio area of the Whidbey Apartment.

There is a motion sensitive light beside the entrance with one step to the main single door and small 1″ wooden threshold.

Upon entering the Whidbey Apartment you arrive at a small tiled entrance and carpeted hallway. There is level access throughout the Apartment except for a small lip to enter the shower tray.

The left hand doorway leads you through to the kitchen/lounge/dining area, with tiled floor around the kitchen area and carpet surrounding the lounge and dining areas.

There is a level access through the hallway into the under floor heated tiled bathroom with a small step into shower tray. The bathroom contains a toilet, basin and heated towel rail.

There are two bedrooms off the hallway, one into the master bedroom with carpet flooring, king size bed, and wooden bedroom furniture and the second to a single bedroom with 3′ bed and wooden bedroom furniture.

A hardwood table & chairs are available in the patio area.

The Rennie Apartment

The Rennie Apartment is the third story apartment within the East wing of the Lodge.

The Apartment is accessed via a footpath which runs beside the Lodge, there are three steps along the path. These can be avoided if you walk along the slightly sloped grassy verge. There are a further 12 steps with hand rails either side that lead up towards the swimming pool, this is followed by a short walk and then 19 more hand railed steps before you enter the terraced patio area of the Rennie Apartment.

There is a motion sensitive light beside the entrance with two steps down to the main door and small 1″ wooden threshold.

Upon entering the Rennie Apartment you arrive at a small tiled entrance and carpeted hallway. The far end doorway leads you through to the kitchen/lounge/dining area, with tiled floor around the kitchen area and carpet surrounding the lounge and dining areas.

There is a level access through the hallway into the under floor heated tiled bathroom with a small step into shower tray. The bathroom contains a toilet, basin and heated towel rail.

There are two bedrooms off the hallway, one into the master bedroom with carpet flooring, a king size bed, and wooden bedroom furniture and the second to a single bedroom with 4′ bed and wooden bedroom furniture.

A hardwood table & chairs are available in the patio area.

Caravan Holiday Homes

Our hire caravans are located at the bottom of a sharp steep hill and then along a flat path that runs for approx. 75 meters. There are a set of 12 steps running adjacent to the steep slope (note: no hand rails)

Cars can be driven to and parked outside your accommodation for unloading and loading purposes only, this includes those with mobility difficulties.

Cars are to be kept on a centrally located car park approx. 75 metres from the accommodation, there is a short gentle slope to enter to the car park and then it is predominately level.

Our caravans are not wheelchair accessible. There are two to four hand railed steps that lead to the UPVC entry door. There is a small 1” threshold to step over to enter the caravan and once inside the hall is narrow.

All caravans are centrally heated and double glazed and are flat inside, with a 3” step required to enter the shower cubicle in the bathroom. None of our caravans have baths.

The lounge, hall & bedrooms are carpeted. The main bedroom has a double bed with 1 or 2, twin bedrooms depending on the size of the home. In each caravan we have a “guzunder” bed, which slots under the other single bed to create a roomy single bedroom, enabling a travel cot to fit into the room. The two single beds can also be moved together to make a second double bed if required.

The kitchen & bathroom flooring is lino. The bathroom contains a shower, toilet, basin and towel rail.

Each caravan has its own external wooden picnic table.

The Bracken Lodge

The Bracken Lodge is the second Lodge on the left hand road as you look out to sea. The Lodge is accessed via three non-hand railed steps then a walk along a short slabbed path and a further three wood decked steps with handrail. The standard width entrance door is UPVC and there is a small threshold (1″) to step over as you access the Lodge. Once you are inside the Lodge, everything is on the same level.

The lounge/dining/kitchen and hallway are covered with engineered wood flooring. There is a large rug in the lounge underneath the coffee table.

The three bedrooms are carpeted.

The main bedroom has a king size bed and wooden bedroom furniture. The en-suite wet room from the master bedroom has a tiled floor, with walk in shower, toilet, heated towel rail and basin.

From the wooden hallway, the second bedroom had two 3’ beds and wooden bedroom furniture and the third bedroom has two 2’6 beds with wooden bedroom furniture.

The separate family bathroom has a tiled floor, toilet, heated towel rail and basin. There is a shower over the bath, which can be accessed by stepping into it.

There are two sliding patio doors to access the wooden decked veranda, with a small 1″ threshold to step over. There is a table with 6 chairs on the Veranda. A small wooden gate with three steps and handrail leads from the Veranda down to the Patio, grass and gas BBQ area.

Heather Lodge

The Heather Lodge is the first Lodge on the left hand road as you look out to sea. The Lodge is accessed via a ramp with a hand rail. The standard width entrance door is UPVC and there is a small threshold (1″) to step over as you access the Lodge. There is a narrow hallway/utility area. Once you are in the Lodge, everything is on the same level.

The lounge/dining/kitchen and hallway area covered with engineered wood flooring. There is a large rug in the lounge underneath the coffee table.

The three bedrooms are carpeted.

The main bedroom has a king size bed and wooden bedroom furniture. The en-suite wet room from the master bedroom has a tiled floor, with walk in shower, toilet, heated towel rail and basin.

The separate family bathroom has a tiled floor, toilet, heated towel rail and basin. There is a shower over the bath, which can be accessed by stepping into it.

There are two sliding patio doors to access the wooden decked veranda, with a small 1″ threshold to step over. There is a table with 6 chairs on the Veranda. A small wooden gate with three steps and handrail leads from the Veranda down to the Patio, grass and gas BBQ area.
